St. Augustine
WHERE ON EARTH?
WHY GO:

The oldest city in the USA is located in Florida and the charming St. Augustine is a very popular destination with many historical sites. This route helps you see the most of it. Just be prepared to share the roads with cars, trolleys and pedestrians, especially in high seasons.

DESCRIPTION:

The city of St. Augustine has so many beautiful buildings and a lot of history. The first part of the route takes you north of city center to the attractions there, using side roads when possible as there can be a lot of traffic on San Marco Avenue. It is especially nice to cycle under the Oak Canopy at Magnolia Avenue.

You pass the fortress Castillo de San Marcos on the way back - a national monument also possible to visit inside. The tour continues over the Bridge of Lions. You may cycle on the main road, but if there's a lot of traffic you may use the pedestrian path, which is narrow but safe. Now you cycle through a residential area on your way to the Lighthouse and if you want some seafood the restaurant The Conch House is conveniently located by the seaside.

The Alligator Farm is on the way back before passing over the bridge again. The last stretch includes several historical places - especially the Lightner Museum has a beautiful backyard. You also pass a lake, a chocolate store, winery and distillery before returning to city center.

Have a great trip!
