WHERE ON EARTH?
WHY GO:

You will see a lot of different birds and iguanas along the Snake Creek Trail. In Oleta State Park there´s gravel paths waiting for you and along the beaches back to Miami you can really enjoy the ocean view.

DESCRIPTION:

This tour is long, but so varied. The start is from the train station Opa-locka and it´s easy to bring bikes on the trains. The first 9-10 km you follow bikelanes in a mainly residential area and you have to be prepared for some traffic by your side. As soon as you get to the Trail it´s only bikes and pedestrians. And animals! As you follow the canal it´s plenty of places to take a rest on benches. Places to eat is usually not far away - just hit one of the sideroads if you get hungry.

When the trail ends you cycle 2 km on bikelanes before you reach Oleta State Park. It will be a fee of 2 dollars to enter the park. The gravel paths are great to cycle on, and if you really want to challenge yourself there´s a lot of trails of varied difficulty here. Or just rest on a bench or the beach and enjoy the view over the city.

As you leave Oleta you will be cycling partly in the traffic for a few kilometers and some may prefer to use the pavement on Collins Avenue. Just make sure to yield for pedestrians and adjust the speed and you will be ok. Once you get on the boardwalk you´re good to go all the way to South Beach. Make sure to get an afternoon swim in the ocean before heading back to the city.

This is a long trip and the last stretch is over the Venetian Bridge - if you´re lucky, in the sunset. The bikelanes here are great at the bridge. As you reach the mainland the bikelanes stops and again you must be part of the traffic until you reach to the Bayfront Park where this tour ends.

Have a great trip!

BE AWARE OF:

Be considerate to the animals along the creek and the park. Yield to pedestrians on the beach. One tunnel along the creek is very low so watch your head!
