Rogaland/Stavanger

WHERE ON EARTH?

WHY GO:
Spectacular and full of contrasts! Old railtracks, old postroads, farmlands and eternal beaches. Norway´s south-western part can be beautiful and rough.Â
Â
DESCRIPTION: Â
Day 1: Egersund - Ogna/Sirevåg
This part of the North Sea Route is a signed bike route starting in charming Egersund before you qickly enter the old railtrack of Jærbanen. It has been transformed to a gravel leasure path that runs on both sides of the existing railtrack, and with some great views over the coast. There´s plenty of benches to take a rest.Â

The next section is passing over the highlands following the ancient main road and it´s really beautiful and quiet. No cars, just you and the birds and the sheeps. You´ll probably need to get off your bike several times because the hills are very steep up and down. Coming down from the mountains to the seaside on the other side is great fun.
Â
Accomodations: SirevÃ¥g Conference Hotel, Ogna camping, Vigrestad Bed and Eggs.Â

Day 2: Ogna/Sirevåg - Sola
Today it will be ocean, beaches, sky and farmland. Add on a lot of historical buildings, the classical Jæren stone fences, museums and lighthouse and you will have to make a lot of stops just to enjoy the views. Surfers is also a very common sight, as this beaches are world famous for the great waves.

Accomodations: Sola Strand Hotel

Day 3: Sola - Stavanger
Today you will pass through the small village Tananger with fishing boats and charming, white houses. We also recommend a small detour down to Tananger Sjøbad, the rocky seabath.Â
Â
As you now turn eastwards the scenery changes and you will enjoy the long winding path of Hafrsfjord and this is one of the great highlights of the whole tour. It´s several places to take a rest and just enjoying the life by the fjord and the sculpture Sverd i fjell is an impressive sight along the way.Â
Â
This tour has been described going from Egersund to Stavanger, from south to north. It can also be done the opposite way, especially if the wind is strong from north. Check weather-forecast before going. You can also combine this trip with the train - which stops several places along the route.Â

BE AWARE OF:
At Jærbanen and Vestlandske hovedvei it´s very hilly and you may need to push the bike. There´s a short distance where you bike on the mainroad with high speed traffic after Jærbanen. The coastal path at Hafrsfjord is shared with pedestrians so be considerate.Â

GETTING THERE:
Going to Egersund is very easy with train from Oslo or Stavanger. You can also prebook a spot for your bike. See Go Ahead Nordic for more details. Stavanger has good connections with train, ferries and airplane.Â
