THE PACKING

Article

What and how to pack for a cycle tour depends on where you go and how far. Always think less is more. You will not have too much on the bike when you hit the hills

One easy solution is just to bring the most necessary, eat at local cafés and restaurants and stay the night at hotels. Some tour operators also organize for transportation of luggage.

If you prefer camping you need more equipment and there are several solutions that can work.

WHAT I ALWAYS BRING

  • Powerbank to the phone - navigation eats battery

  • Small multitool

  • Extra tube (in case of flat tire)

  • Small pump

  • Tire Levers (to change tire)

  • Enough drinking water

  • Food or at least some snack/nuts/energy bar

OUTFIT

  • Helmet

  • Sunglasses

  • Cycle pants with padding - a must if you cycle more than 10 km. Feel free to hide it under other shorts/pants :)

  • Gloves - with or without fingers

  • Clothes according to weather forecast - think layers so you can adjust

  • One set of clothes and shoes for change after cycling - if longdistance tour

    CYCLE BAGS

    • With two bags on your luggage tray it should be possible to fit what you need of food, tent, sleepingbag and sleeping mat for a camping trip.

    • Put the heaviest thing at the bottom.

    BIKEPACKING

    • With special bags attached directly on the bike it´s possible to bring surprisingly much. If you want tips on how this work it´s a lot of videos on youtube.

    TROLLEY

    • Trolleys can work, especially if you travel with kids. We have tested trolleys for luggage. Our experience is that we bring too much stuff, it slows us down and it´s more complicated to travel.

    BACKPACK

    • Backpack can work for shorter trips, but it´s uncomfortable to bike longer distances with heavy backpacks.
